I could use some advice on preventing emails from going to spam. We are delivering updates to beta users of our app and still keep getting shoved into spam folders. We did the basics but are now sort of stuck. Any experts on email marketing and especially set up that can spare some time for advice?
this is a great topic and something I struggle with too <@U08UGG001SL> @Matt Burgess <@U0913JDBH4J> @Dom D'Alexander any ideas?
@Lou Zameryka Have you tried using any cold email warm up apps like LemWarm? Or communicating through a provider like Mailchimp where you ask people to opt in?
Hi Dustin. We are using Sendgrid for email sending. We did not try warming up with LemWarm or any other way. Mainly because we have a very small user base of app beta testers. Do you think we should just get friends/family emails and use a warmup like LemWarm with those emails getting our email flows?
Hi Lou - what platform are you sending from?
Hi Darci, we are sending from Sendgrid. I think maybe we need to warm up our email.
Also since we operate a shopify store those emails go out to customers via shopify or klayvio so maybe we are sending in too many ways?
Are all of your emails going to spam? Or just certain ones - i.e. ones sending from Klaviyo or ones from Shopify? Can you send one to me?
Hi Lou - most important thing we did is separating emails into 3 main categories and using different services for each so important stuff don't get affected.
1) Account related emails (sign up/ password recovery etc) - we use the secure Amazon Cognito and their email notifications, so these never go to spam
2) Transactional emails - these are auto updates when app users trigger specific notifications - we use Hubspot transactional emails service but there are others that are less pricey.. These also rarely go to spam because they are classified as transactional emails
3) Marketing emails - last but not least.. all other promo emails you are sending and this category does often end up in Spam, but there are ways to optimize it.
Optimizing marketing emails:
1. Choosing a provider is important. For example, Mailchimp does get some reports for higher spam rates, and that's what we used originally before switching to Hubspot for both transactional and marketing emails. But I can't say for sure plus it's been a few years.
2. Beyond that, you should try to minimize Spam reports from recipients and watch your analytics which types of emails get you in trouble.
3. Use personalization in each email.
4. So much more advice here .
wow thanks Yuli!
@Darci only some seem to go to spam. We are going to test with a "seasoning" campaign next week. We will send out 2-3 emails to friends and ask them to do thinks like mark as not spam, reply etc to help teach email providers we are not spam. That is our hope at least. Can I include you in that?
Yes, definitely!
