Sharing some advice on VA hiring that came up during our WGM hike - in case it’s helpful for anyone exploring support..
We’ve had great success hiring from the Philippines directly via - especially for roles like customer support, admin, content creation, and marketing (sometimes all in one!).
It’s $69 to post a job, and you’ll usually get hundreds of applications within hours.
Here’s what’s worked well for us:
• Be super specific in your job post: list out tools, hours, responsibilities, and must-have experience. No fluff..
• Most applicants are open to work EST, just make it clear upfront.
• Average rate for a skilled VA/support/content person with 3–5 years experience is ~$5/hr (as listed on their profiles).
Our process:
1. Scan profiles and shortlist those with personalized cover letters and/or intro videos.
2. Send a Google Forms knowledge test to 30-50 promising candidates - include a couple of tricky, research-based questions.
3. When reviewing responses in the spreadsheet, it’s easy to spot ChatGPT users (identical answers will give them away).
4. Rank the responses and invite the top 8-10 to a 15-min Zoom interview. Expect 2–3 no-shows, but usually 1 will be amazing.
We’ve made 2 great hires using this exact flow - all within just a few days.
