Can someone sum up the longevity trend for me? I feel like this is a new thing that's suddenly everywhere and I don't get what it means exactly and what "longevity startups" are. Is it aging and elder care? Is it general better living? Do I have a longevity startup?? I feel like I'm just crawling out from under a rock 🫣

It is confusing, because it does indeed encompass a lot of different things haha. Generally it means not just "better living" but tracking a lot of your health markers more closely and companies trying to find unique leverage to extend life..
But, to me, a lot of these "longevity" startups fall into a few buckets of ways people are trying to extend lifespan and health span:
• Medical/pharmacological interventions
• Making certain tests (blood tests, fitness tests, scans, gut tests) more convenient (at home, more affordable, etc) and more consumer facing (better UI for interfacing with test results, getting insights into what the data means, etc)
• Concierge medical practices with a focus on preventative medicine
• "Wellness clinics" that offer various therapies

@John LaGue Interesting, thanks! So our product (emotional health biofeedback companion, tracks HRV and EDA for optimization and self-regulation, would that sort of be in the area? I'm asking cuz I just saw a VC that's investing in Longevity and wondering if I should reach out and/or rebrand

I think it all comes down to how you want to frame it. To me, I dont see why you couldn't call that part of longevity

If I understand correctly, "extending life" is the main common thread. So supposedly a case is there to be made that lowering stress = extends life

At the end of the day, longevity is a reframing of healthcare! I think of it simply as longevity = closing the healthspan-lifespan gap.
