How's everyone's back to school going? Sharing a "success case study" from our 1st week in case anyone is struggling with screen time management and morning routines.
Starting with confession.. Last year we got into a bad habit of letting our kids (4th grader and Kindergartener now ) on ipads in the morning so we can get our stuff together.. which resulted in some cranky little humans, morning arguments and lateness. It was hard to break the habit and we let it slip longer than we should have...
This year, inspired by my convo with <@U092V7BBL6L> we used the new school year start as an opportunity to shape new habits. We created a whole new routine and schedule with easy tasks (posted on the fridge) that now take up most of their morning- making up bed, getting dressed, clean up after bfast, etc and most importantly a mandatory exercise - choice of yoga, soccer DribbleUp, Youtube guided exercise on TV, etc. If they stick to it they get a prize at the end of the week that we can do as a family- last week they chose a sushi dinner!
The change in their moods and behavior has been incredible. They are actually excited to compete and see who finishes everything first and push each other so the score isn't affected. Of course we still have to remind them about time but it's nothing compared to what it used to be. It takes some "coaching time" as well, but so worth it! Now just hope we can stick to this routine for the rest of the year.. 🙏
this is soooo cool! thanks a million for sharing
even though Luca is MUCH younger it's inspiring to get through the difficulty of changing routine to do something that is better for their moods and behavior
and i can't wait to get Dribble Up when he is ready. he already LOVES soccer!!
@Brian Von Ancken NICE kicks!! I can see a future soccer dad here ;)
